Since inception in 2005, the school has set a track record producing graduates with good performance at the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme (DP), providing them with a springboard for entry into colleges and universities of their choice.

HCIS Celebrates Remarkable 2019 IB Examination Results with the Largest Batch of Integrated Programme Students

Much jubilation at Hwa Chong International School followed the announcement of the IB DP results for 2019 IB examinations on 3 January 2020, marking yet another year of excellent academic achievements of the 2019 IB graduating class of 152 DP students, the largest cohort size in the history of HCIS ever since the first batch of DP students graduated in 2010.

Continuing its commendable performance in the IB examinations from last year, the DP pass rate was a high of 99%, making this a remarkable feat given the large cohort size and also an improvement from last year’s results. Most exciting for the HCIS community was the celebration of the attainment of the perfect IB score of 45 points achieved by the two top students of the school. This year, two distinguished learners did the school proud to achieve the coveted perfect IB score of 45 points. They are Yeo Yeo (Singaporean) and Go Sarah Ashley (American). Moreover, five outstanding students attained the stellar performance of 44 points.

On the broader front, HCIS continued its high performance with one in two students achieving at least 37 points which qualifies them for many renowned universities worldwide. In addition, one in four of the cohort achieved 40 and above points. Befitting the strong bilingual emphasis and Chinese roots of the school heritage, two in five students notably achieved the IB Bilingual Diploma. These results speak of the many success stories and celebrations, a testimony of the hard work and determination of the learners of HCIS. The graduating class of 2019 can now move onto the next stage of their education with confidence. 

As in other years, HCIS is particularly heartened by the outstanding and consistent progress our learners have made irrespective of their ability or starting point. Among the more average students were numerous examples of high value-add in IB DP performance, consistent with HCIS core strength of value-add to student learning and performance and best exemplifies the school’s educational philosophy of helping our learners to realise their maximum potential.

With the remarkable results, HCIS looks forward to loftier challenges as it gathers momentum to be a Leading IB World School as espoused in the school vision.
