Dear Parents/Guardians

Let me first welcome you back to a new school year. I hope everyone had a great year-end break and are ready to start the learning journey with HCIS.

The IB Diploma 2011 results were released last evening at 8pm. It gives me great pleasure to announce that our second batch of IB Diploma students has performed exceedingly well.  43 students sat for the examinations and achieved a high passing rate of above 90 percent. Our top performer is Low Jun En with a score of 42 points out of a possible 45 in six subjects.  The cohort has also achieved stellar results with one in five having attained 40 points and above, surpassing the 2010 record of 39 points. The average score was a high of 35 points, an improvement over last year’s score of 33 points.

Our top performers had come from eight different nationalities and regions: Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Korea, Hong Kong, China, Philippines and Cambodia, a testament to the multinational student body and holistic education offered by HCIS that equips students with the skills to achieve academic excellence with a global outlook and a strong sense of values.

HCIS’ strength in the teaching and learning of Chinese Language continues to bear out with an impressive 12 students having attained the Bilingual IB Diploma. This is a record jump from two students in the pioneering batch last year.

The commendable performance of our second batch of IB Diploma graduands would not have been possible without the dedication of teachers, perseverance of students and engagement from parents and guardians who have supported the school and teachers every step of the way.   I would like to express my deepest thanks and appreciation to you.

2012 will be another very busy year as the school gears itself up to celebrate the official opening of HCIS which will take place sometime in August.  In conjunction with the official opening, the school will be undertaking a school-wide Charity Drive to demonstrate HCIS’ firm commitment to serving the community and an international Business Challenge to promote entrepreneurship and cross-cultural learning among our students. Besides these major endeavours, the school calendar continues to be chock-full with festive celebrations and special events to enliven school life and strengthen student character and leadership development.

It will be an exciting year ahead and I look forward to your continual support to make HCIS a school of choice and one where leaders are made.

Finally, to celebrate the milestone achievement of our IB Diploma graduands 2011, I am pleased to declare Monday, 9 January 2012 a day of celebration for the school. Students will not be required to come to school on that day.  On behalf of the HCIS Staff, have a wonderful holiday!
