Education Pathway
We believe in bringing out the best in our learners. To this end, the education pathway is designed to give specialised attention and support to students at critical junctures of their learning and development.
As students advance over a six-year integrated programme culminating in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IB Diploma), they experience a suite of academic and student development programmes offered by our Lower School (Year 1-2), Upper School (Year 3-4) and Senior School (IB 1-2).
Overseas students who seek an intensive English Language Course in preparation for formal admission into HCIS could also be placed in the Preparatory Course. Such a multi-lateral approach within an aligned curriculum caters for customisation by age and ability.
Headed by carefully selected professionals with extensive teaching and student-care expertise, students in the respective schools undergo different pedagogic and learning models tailored to their needs. As they progress through the years, they also experience and participate in subject-specific as well as non-academic milestone programmes targeted for the lower school, upper school and senior school levels.
The promotion of students to the next level is based on their performance in continuous assessments, the mid-year and end-of-year examinations. To encourage students to maintain outstanding performance throughout the year, students who have consistently obtained an A Grade are exempted from the end-of-year examination and granted direct promotion. Similarly, Year 4 students who have met the school’s internal promotion criteria are automatically placed into Senior School (IB 1), a track that allows their opting out of the Cambridge IGCSE examinations.
At the end IB 2, all IB 2 students will sit for the IBDP external examination run by the International Baccalaureate Organisation (IBO).
The IB Diploma Programme (IBDP) is a challenging two-year curriculum leading to a qualification that is widely recognised by leading local and overseas universities. Focusing on the education of the whole person, IBDP emphasizes intellectual, personal, emotional and social growth through all domains of knowledge.
In the HCIS learning journey, we embrace the IB goal to develop students into global citizens with the knowledge, understanding, attitudes and skills necessary to participate actively and responsibly in a changing world.
