Management of Boarders

The Residence Management System is structured to facilitate the effective management, as well as the development of leadership quality and potential of boarders.

HCIS Residence is staffed by a team of full-time Resident Mentors. Each boarder is assigned a Mentor who serves as the link between the boarder, school and his parents/guardians.
Living alongside the boarders allows the Mentors to help boarders address their academic, social and emotional needs. They meet the boarders regularly to review their academic progress, help them resolve problems they encounter, and counsel them when necessary. Mentors monitor boarders’ overall progress, and give regular feedback to the boarders’ parents/guardians.
Mentors plan, implement and conduct after-school enrichment programmes for boarder’s participation. These programmes, which include sports & games, personal effectiveness & development, music & dance, etc, enable boarders to appreciate the values of community living, and develop boarders into disciplined, responsible and confident individuals.
Cluster Leaders
In addition to a Resident Mentor, each cluster will have a Cluster Leader to assist the Resident Mentor in the day-to-day management of the cluster.
Boarder Government
There is also a Boarder Government (BG) which represents the boarders to the administration of the Residence, and help Mentors in the planning and organising of activities that will benefit boarders as well as enhance the well-being of the entire Residence community.
At least a boarder from each cluster will serve on the BG as Governor. Governors are identified by Mentors or nominated by boarders.
