Under the Spotlight - Chinese Drama Competition (4 Aug 11)
Under the warm spotlight on stage, I could see the beads of perspiration dripping down the anxious faces - shiny and clear. We have come to the end of the last performance. What awaits us next are the results.
It was the occasion of the first Chinese Drama Competition in HCIS. Held on August 4th in the MPH, the competition gave the students yet another golden opportunity to experience teamwork in a creative and fun way. Through preparing for the competition, we have learned how to communicate better with our schoolmates, and to overcome for many of us, stage fright.
Working together as a team is not always a bed of roses. It was hard work. In the weeks leading to the competition, we spent many after-school hours planning, scripting and rehearsing. There were nine different competiting plays altogether and from students across the different Chinese Language banding groups. That means, students with different proficiency in the Chinese Language had a chance to come together and learn from one another. The plays covered a variety of themes ranging from Chinese festivals, ancient Chinese folks tales to historical events from past dynasties of China.
After a wait that felt like eternity, the judges are ready with the results – the first place goes to the Pre-U1 team which has won for their authentic costumes, excellent acting skills and a well-written script, “荆轲刺秦王”.
Taking the second place were two Sec 3 Band A1 groups “元夕.残月” and ”嫦娥奔月”.
Not to be disappointed, special awards were also given out to the Best Actress, Lim Chu Yech of Secondary 3 Resilience, Best Actor, Wang Zhi Han from Pre-U 1 Integrity, Best Directors Wang Ming Yi of Pre-University 1 Integrity and Liang Xiaodan of Pre-University 1 Joy. The Best Scriptwriter award went to the Secondary Three team comprising Gu Yining of 3 Excellence, Yang Fengqi and Miao Tianying of 3 Integrity. Xu Fan of Pre-University 1 Integrity and Ling Yiyang of Pre-University 1 Joy won the Best Stage props. Xue Xiao Qing of Secondary 3 Teamwork, Liang Tingkai of Secondary 3 Integrity and Zhang Yuetian of Secondary 3 Resilience were given Merit Awards.
It has been a week since the drama competition but I still have vivid memories of the joy and excitement. It had been an unforgettable experience and I am grateful to my teachers for giving us such a wonderful platform to showcase our talents.
