Founders Day and Scholarship Award Ceremony (21 Mar 2011)

21st March marked a significant day in the history of Hwa Chong International School and one that was celebrated in style and with aplomb.  That was the day when the school and parents commemorated the contribution of its founder Mr Tan Kah Kee and all the countless men and women who had given so selflessly of themselves 93 years ago to make Hwa Chong into a great establishment.

The joyous occasion saw more than 60 students receiving outstanding achiever awards from Secondary one to Pre-University. Among them were several students who had performed exceptionally well in the 2010 IGCSE. Nikhil Choudary and Sarah Too Jiayu did themselves and the school proud by garnering 8A*. Lam Aishyn topped the World Cambridge IGCSE Foreign Language Mandarin Chinese (June) 2010.  David Wong was awarded the International Baccalaureate (IB) Outstanding Award while Jessica Ngiam was conferred the Best Performer in A Level award.

To cap this momentous event, HCIS launched its inaugural HCIS Scholarship to recognise students who are high academic achievers and have exhibited outstanding leadership qualities and exemplary conduct.  A total of twenty-one students from Secondary two to Pre-University were awarded the HCIS Scholarship.

Also launched on the special occasion was the HCIS Peter Lim Scholarship with an endowment made possible by the generosity of renowned billionaire entrepreneur and philanthropist Mr Peter Lim.  Mr Lim rose from very humble origins to become a highly successful businessman.  He is the quintessential of the kind of successful individual that we would like our students to become when they graduate.

Two students- Tiong Yee Eng (Pre-U1I) and Yap Pui Yee (Sec 4I) are the first two recipients of the HCIS Peter Lim Scholarship. Both recipients have demonstrated exceptionally high standards in the academic, leadership and personal domains.

Our congratulations to all the award winners and our sincere thanks and appreciation to Mr Peter Lim for support  which will certainly spur many students to dream big dreams and then make them come true one day.
