Inaugural HCIS Economics Forum (24 Feb 2011)

The HCIS Economics Forum was held on 24 Feb 2011 at a lecture theatre jam-packed with invited students from Tanglin Trust School, Canadian International School, United World College and local junior colleges. Professor Phoon Kok Fai, Associate Professor of Finance Practice from Singapore Management University captured the attention of his audience with a riveting analysis of the causes and consequences of the Worst Financial Crisis.

He reminded all that the problems of the crisis were so far-reaching that they were still causing an adverse impact on economies round the world, including the stupendous debt problems faced by Portugal, Ireland, Italy, Greece and Spain (collectively known as the PIIGS) in EU.

The forum ended in an engaging question and answer session with Professor Phoon as students showed their keen interest with questions about what governments could do to alleviate the adverse effects of the crisis. Teachers from invited schools said their students really enjoyed and benefitted from the presentation by Professor Phoon.
