Academic Staff

EXPERIENCED INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE TEACHERS

Hwa Chong International School is looking for inspiring, passionate and committed teachers to explore a career with us.

Teachers may be required to teach various levels in the school’s six-year academic programme. Apart from teaching, teachers are expected to guide the students throughout the academic year in all areas of their holistic development including in-charge of co-curricular activities and form-teachership. The incumbent will undertake planning and execution of various school activities throughout the year. As part of the school’s professional learning community, teachers are expected to contribute to teacher collaboration and resource development to value-add to the learning and development of students.

Head of Department, Mathematics Integrated Programme (Years 1–4) – Start on 1 January 2027

To provide strategic pedagogical leadership for the Year 1 to 4 (Grades 7 to 10) Mathematics curriculum, ensuring rigorous alignment with the IB Diploma Programme. The Head of Department is responsible for driving academic performance, elevating faculty instructional standards, and leading team management. Beyond operational leadership, this role will foster a culture of mathematical inquiry and pedagogical innovation, inspire teaching excellence, and actively promote the discipline of Mathematics across the school community.

Key Responsibilities:

Academic Leadership & Faculty Coordination

  • Lead, mentor and build the capacity of faculty teachers, conduct regular performance reviews and recommend targeted professional development in liaison with the Assistant Principal.
  • Drive the design of curriculum and assessments, continuous review, and horizontal/vertical alignment of the Year 1 to 4 Mathematics curriculum to ensure seamless progression into the IB Diploma Programme.
  • Conduct regular formal and informal classroom observations across all year levels (Grades 7–10) to evaluate teaching effectiveness, enforce school-wide instructional standards, and provide actionable, growth-oriented feedback that directly elevates student engagement and learning outcomes.
  • Convene structured departmental meetings, maintain formal records, and ensure all faculty members align with school policies and strategic goals.
  • Maintain active liaison across departments, fostering collaborative communication and reflective teaching practices to enhance quality of instructions.

People & Resource Management

  • Lead, train, guide and support faculty teachers and make recommendations for appropriate in-service training.
  • Conduct performance and development reviews three times a year with individual faculty members to evaluate teaching quality and mentor staff on pedagogical practices.
  • Ensure that the faculty is aware of all Hwa Chong International School policies, through regular and effective liaison with faculty teachers. Encourage clear communication regarding any educational issues and feedback to improve teaching efficiency.
  • Oversee the induction and progress monitoring of new hires. Including mentor less experienced faculty members.
  • Coordinate operational daily lesson cover for absent faculty members to ensure uninterrupted student learning.
  • Oversee the procurement, inventory, and maintenance of instructional resources for the faculty.

Faculty Planning & Accountability

  • Develop, execute, and evaluate an annual Departmental Deployment and Development plan aligned with the school’s strategic framework
  • Budget planning and review.
  • Keep School Management informed on student achievements, operational challenges, and staffing matters, providing actionable recommendations.

Assessment

  • Establish, publish, and maintain a robust faculty assessment framework aligned with institutional standards.
  • Collaborate with the Assessments Committee to manage internal assessments and external examinations, enforcing strict compliance with syllabus requirements.
  • Performance Analytics: Analyze internal and external examination performance data to identify trends, benchmark student achievement, and implement interventions where required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • At least a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from an established University and possess a Post-Graduate diploma/degree in Teaching. 
  • Minimum of 8 years of teaching experience would be advantageous.
  • Demonstrated experience in the IB curriculum and prior educational leadership roles of at least 4 years are strongly preferred.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills, capable of building collaborative relationships across the school and wider educational community.

Physical Education (PE) Teacher – Start on 1 January 2027

Requirements:

  • At least a degree in Physical Education from an established University and possess teacher training qualifications, e.g. Post-graduate Diploma in Education
  • Minimum 3 years of teaching PE and overseeing Co-curricular Activities (CCA) experience in a school
  • Experience integrating PE component into Creativity, Activity and Service (CAS) projects will be advantageous
  • Be willing to teach all levels from secondary to pre-tertiary

Requirements:

  • At least a degree in Mathematics from an established University and possess teacher training qualifications, e.g. Post-graduate Diploma in Education
  • Minimum 3 years of teaching experience in the IB Diploma Programme pre-tertiary Higher level would be advantageous
  • Candidate should have experience in teaching IBDP Mathematics (HL)
  • Be willing to teach in the Secondary levels
  • Self-motivated and passionate about educating students
  • Able to multi-task and work independently

IB Business Management Teacher

Requirements:

  • At least a degree in Business from an established University and possess teacher training qualifications, e.g. Post-graduate Diploma in Education
  • At least 3 years of teaching experience in the IB Diploma Programme or at pre-tertiary levels would be a distinct advantage
  • Be willing to teach at Secondary levels
  • Great interpersonal skills and caring teacher qualities

Theory of Knowledge Teacher

Requirements:

  • At least a degree from an established University and possess teacher training qualifications, e.g. Post-graduate Diploma in Education
  • Background in Philosophy at university level is preferred
  • At least 3 years of teaching experience in the IBDP TOK or equivalent in GCE ‘A’ level
  • Candidate should have attended TOK Category 2 IBDP Workshop
  • Have experience in supervision of Extended Essay
  • Able to multi-task and work independently

Requirements:

  • Minimum a degree from an established University in the subject(s) that you teach
  • At least 4 years of teaching experience in the subject areas

Non-Academic Staff

RESIDENCE MENTORS (RESIDENTIAL)

HCIS Residence is committed to promote holistic development of boarding students by creating a positive living and learning environment to enhance student development beyond the classroom. We provide quality programmes, services and facilities for students to grow and develop in various aspects of their lives to become inclusive and exemplary leaders, life-long inquirers and caring members of the community.

As members of the school community, Residence Mentors (Residential) work with the Head of Boarding and Boarding Manager closely to run daily operations. The roles of a Residence Mentor are:

  • As a disciplinarian to instill self-discipline and good time management of each boarder
  • As a caregiver to nurture the social-emotional development of each boarder
  • Create and maintain a supportive atmosphere for student learning and development within the boarding community
  • Assist boarders in transition, to learn life skills in resolving conflicts, as well as manage learning, character building, and independence. To guide boarders to develop a sense of community through supervision and participation in programmes and activities

Job Description

  • Develop a trusting relationship with boarders and attend to their needs and issues
  • Manage discipline of boarders including their safety and security 
  • Contact point with parents and teachers of boarders assigned
  • Develop and conduct boarding programmes and activities
  • Perform all administrative work related to the role
  • Perform Duty Mentor duties on Weekends, School Holidays and Public Holidays
  • Perform room checks and follow up on defects rectification
  • Bring boarders to ICA, embassy for appointment and unwell boarders to clinic
  • Assist reception duties, show-room tours, escort vendors, as and when assigned
  • Provide administrative, operational support or any other miscellaneous tasks as assigned by the Reporting Officer

Requirements:

  • Minimum diploma holder with min 1-2 years of relevant working experience. Those without experience may apply as training will be provided.
  • Possess appropriate dispositions such as empathy towards students and managing the demands of the job
  • Good verbal and written communication skills, especially in English and Mandarin, to handle queries and concerns from Mandarin-speaking associates with regards to the programmes and activities
  • Organised, meticulous, and able to multitask
  • Experience with boarding services and guiding youth will be a good fit for the role
  • Additional skill-sets like first-aid and mentoring students would be an added advantage
  • Residing within the Boarding residence is required and working hours are Mondays to Fridays from 3pm to 11pm and monthly weekend duties will be involved
