Unleashing English Prowess in the Residence

During the 2nd Semester of the Academic Year 2023, HCIS Residence organized an English Enrichment Program for 25 boarders from Year 1 and Year 2,  the majority of whom were new boarders. Its objective was to boost the boarder’s confidence in using the English language. It focused on equipping them with some techniques and strategies to develop their ability to read, speak, and write in English confidently.

The sessions were held every Monday evening, from 7:30 PM to 9:30 PM, and were facilitated by Ms Grace Seguban, Senior Residence Mentor. She was assisted by Ms Arlaine Marcelino and Mr. Chur Kok Wee. The Residence Mentors created a safe space that allowed boarders to have fun and freely express themselves in English. Fun and engaging activities such as film viewing, crossword puzzles, group games, and impromptu speeches were provided. During Term 3, the program focused on improving listening and writing skills, while Term 4 was dedicated to enhancing reading and speaking skills. In preparation for their exams, care packages were distributed.

All enrolled boarders successfully completed the program on 9 October 2023. As a culminating activity, they showcased their skills by delivering their speeches, and certificates of completion were awarded to them.
